Dear first grade families,
It is so hard to believe we have reached our last week of school! It has been such a pleasure working with your children this year. Here's a look at what we learned last week.
Math--timed test x2 facts; learning x3 facts; reviewing subtraction facts; subtracting 3-digit numbers and estimating to the nearest hundred
Phonics--reviewed affixes and combinations
Literature--Tut's Mummy: Lost and Found by Judy Donnelly and Nate the Great by Marjorie W. Sharmat
Composition--sentences defining words from Tut's Mummy
Grammar--synonyms vs antonyms
Bible--We are memorizing Deuteronomy 6. This week we learned Deut. 6: 9. We also read about the Israelites conquering Canaan and living in the Promised Land
History--Chapter 13, The New Kingdom of Egypt
Science--carnivorous mammals and caterpillar journals. As of Friday we had 8 butterflies and 3 about to emerge!
Geography--Thank you so much to everyone who participated in our postcard challenge! We almost got them all and the kids had a blast. We are also studying Canada now. We got all except: UT, VT, WV, and D. C. :)
Read Aloud--Treasures from Grandma's Attic by Arleta Richardson
We also complete some pages in our Handwriting book each week.
In Christ,
Mrs. Herrera
